Steven Yeung was born in Hong Kong and started learning the piano at the age of 4 alongside the flute. A graduate of St. Paul’s College, he is now studying at the Royal College of Music, London, with Richard Uttley, on a full scholarship supported by the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme. In Hong Kong, he was under the tutelage of Professor Fang Jia since the age of 5. He has participated in performance classes and masterclasses with Ian Jones, Joel Hastings, Andrew Zolinsky and Sofya Gulyak. As a pianist, Steven has given his debut recital in Hong Kong in August 2022. He is a 6-time champion in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival participating in solo piano competitions. He also won the First Class Award in the Liszt Memorial Prizes International Piano Open Competition (HKSAR Division) and the champion in the Hong Kong International Music & Arts Festival in 2020. He was awarded distinction with 90 marks in the LTCL diploma in 2018 at the age of 14. He has performed in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong City Hall, St. Marry Abbot’s Church, the Savile Club and many other venues both as a concert pianist and a member of chamber ensembles. He was also one of the leaders in the Pianist & Organist Team in his secondary school. A zealous well-rounded musician, Steven is a member of two piano trios in the college and has been invited to play in other ensemble groups such as the clarinet quartet and has played as a collaborative pianist for the Keyboard Festival, SonataFest and numerous other occasions for his fellow schoolmates.
