Maja Špilar is a twenty-three year old flutist from Slovenia, currently studying at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt, Austria with Professor Adel Oborzil. She is pursuing her studies in two study courses, concert and pedagogical, while at the same time enriching her knowledge of playing the baroque flute (traverso), in the side studies of early music.
She started her musical journey at the Marjan Kozina Music School in Novo mesto (Slo). Later, she continued her musical education at the general grammar school in Novo mesto (Slo), and in parallel expanded her musical knowledge at the private conservatory of Jurij Slatkonja, also in Novo mesto. During this time she took part in national competitions for young musicians in Slovenia, where she won two second and one third place. In 2019, she passed the matriculation exam in music at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and won second place in the competition for young musicians in Slovenia. She is a long-standing member of the Ave Wind Orchestra and the GŠMK Symphony Orchestra, since 2016, where she takes the role of the solo flutist. She particularly enjoys playing in a chamber ensemble or with an orchestra, as she believes that music-making is even more powerful when the musical ideas and emotions of many people come together in a beautiful musical story.
