Minsol Kim, born and raised in South Korea, began her musical journey with piano at the age of five before discovering percussion through Samulnori, a traditional Korean percussion ensemble. This early exposure sparked her deep passion for rhythm and inspired her to explore a wide range of the world of percussion.
After immigrating to Canada, she discovered orchestral percussion in high school band and pursued it with passion. She was selected for the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra (now the Jack Long Honour Band) and later joined the Calgary Youth Orchestra after relocating to Calgary from Toronto.
Minsol has performed with Alberta Winds, Calgary Civic Orchestra, Calgary Korean Orchestra, and the MRU Wind Ensemble, while actively participating in her school’s various ensembles, including jazz, wind, and percussion. She has broadened her experience by attending SPIN (Summer Percussion Institute) in MRU, where she collaborated with and was taught by percussionists of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. She currently studies privately with Nia Devetzis and instructs as part of the MRU Percussion Academy under the mentorship of both Nia Devetzis and Sean Buckley.
Minsol aspires to pursue a professional career in music, driven by a passion and a vision to share her artistry with the world.
